Rare Shark Cooked in Coconut Milk!

Come to think of it. One of the world’s rarest shark was caught in the waters of Philippines by local fishermen. It’s a megamouth shark and it’s really rare coz each find is given a number. It is counted as the 41st megamouth shark that was caught or seen. It was caught in the coastal town of Donsol.

It is classified by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature as “data deficient” because so few have ever been studied.

Ironically Donsol has earned a global reputation for marine conservation, after campaigners convinced the locals to stop butchering giant whale sharks which use the nearby waters to feed.

The town prides itself as the whale shark capital of the world and marine tourism is a key money earner.

It’s very ironic, though, and funny too! Somehow I can’t blame those fishermen having caught that shark. They don’t have any idea that it’s one of the world’s rarest shark, and they weren’t informed beforehand. Well, that’s only in the Philippines! Only in the Philippines, where you can butcher and eat endangered or rare species. :)
